With the term "garden dwarfs" I mean all kinds of sculptures that have adorned the gardens of the villas since the sixties, ranging from donkeys to hawks, dwarfs, alone or in pairs, polychrome or stone, cats sucking the paw and infinity of insects of different sizes, strategically placede in corners of the garden and terrace.
Is an international practice, I want to say that you find the same thing with dwarves in a garden in Baden Baden, that in the heart of Conneticut, in the Upper Manzanares Basin or the San Juan Swamp.
Although personally the dwarfs produce rejection, many others of these sculptures I find them fun and with a little dot kistch. For example, the classic dog of which only the tail is seen, because the rest is under ground searching, I have always loved it. However the burrito with baskets on the sides that the gardeners lovingly filled with vivacious I am horrified, it may be because I climbed with five cousins one summer at the great-grandfather's house, the burrito broke and I still have the scars.
What is clear is that they marked an era, passed from the fountains and the elegant nineteenth-century sculptures of muses and naiads in manicured gardens with hedges trimmed by the waist to enjoy the Italian or French landscaping A fun figurine that you discover between ivy or bougainvillea massifs.
Today we can find thousand and one decorative sculptures for our gardens, which do not even remember the dwarfs from afar, without going any further sculpture of iron like those we saw the other day of Maite Carranza or different works in fiberglass, chicken coop or stone, and that do not have Not a little dandruff.
What do you think of garden figurines? Do you think garden dwarfs, decoration or aberration?
